Simple Skin Care Habits to Begin When You're 10 Years Old

Simple Skin Care Habits to Begin When You're 10 Years Old

Turning ten comes with new adventures! You’re probably in your last year of elementary school and you get to start thinking about hormones. Puberty is not something to be afraid of, and here at Kidskin, we can help you tackle some skin issues that might arise. It is important to start forming healthy skincare habits around the age of ten to get your skin off to a great start.

It's OK if you don't remember to do your skincare routine every day. The goal is to begin caring for your skin and understand which type of skin you have to ensure the routine and products you use are a good fit.

To get started with simple skincare habits, you should put together a few items that are mild, including a face cleanser, moisturizer, acne treatment (in case a pimple shows up), and sunscreen. It's essential to wear sunscreen and reapply if necessary, since young skin is more sensitive than adult skin.

How to Start a Skincare Routine for a 10-Year-Old

Just like brushing your teeth, you should get into the habit of washing your face in the morning and again before bed. The first products to introduce your skin to are a mild face cleanser and a moisturizer.

  • Washing your Face:

Our skin goes through a lot throughout the day, and if you’ve been active in sports, your face may become sweaty or dirty. Washing your face will help prevent any harm the environment may cause. When you use a face wash for kids, you take off any dirt and oil that your skin has been exposed to during your day. This will help prevent or eliminate any blemishes. We have the perfect kid's face wash to start your skincare routine! Depending on the type of skin you have, you may want to try our Gentle Skin Cleanser for dry skin or our T-blast Foaming Cleanser for oily skin. When you wash your face, use water that is warm (not hot), rinse well, and pat dry (do not rub).
  • Moisturizing your Skin:

When you're doing your skincare routine, it's a good habit to put on some moisturizer after you finish washing your face. When you use a kid's face wash, it can remove some of your natural oils. The moisturizer will help maintain and replenish moisture and keep your skin glowing. We have a gentle moisturizer for sensitive skin and a calming one for dry skin and acne.

Considering your Skin Type

Not everyone has the same type of skin. To find the products that are the best for you, it's important to know and understand the skin type you may have.

What are the Skin Types:

There are four types of skin to know when it comes to skincare:

  1. Normal skin type is not too dry and not too oily. If you have this type of skin, you may see fewer pimples and blackheads.
  2. Oily skin type tends to be a little shinier, and more pimples and blackheads will show up.
  3. Dry skin type will have dry patches, flaky skin, and may even be itchy.
  4. Combination skin type is a blend of all the skin types. Your T-Zone area (forehead, nose, and chin) may be oily, but other parts of your skin might be rough and dry.

How Does Skin Type Impact a Skincare Routine?

Since everyone's skin is different, it is important to choose the right skincare products for your type of skin. Products that are helpful to one skin type might irritate another. Your skin type can also change over time, so you may need to use other products when you’re older. For more information on how to know which type of skin you have, check out this post.

Stop the Breakouts for Tween Skin

Oh no! You have been sticking to your skincare routine, but a pimple is still showing up! We have to remember that what we put inside our body is as important as what we put on our skin.

  • Foods and Pimples: The foods we eat can cause pimples. The key here is to have a well-balanced diet with as many anti-inflammatory foods as possible while keeping inflammatory foods like sugar and processed foods to a minimum. You can still have donuts, pizza, and fast food, but good food choices for your body and skin will be whole grains, fresh fruits, and fresh vegetables. When a pimple does show up, don’t pop it! After you have used your kid's face wash, use a spot treatment like our Z-Blast Acne Serum.
  • Drink Enough Water for Glowing Skin: Your body and skin need water, or you may start to feel dehydrated. When your skin is dehydrated, it could get dry, leading it to produce excess oil, making you look greasy. Increased oil can also lead to acne. Try to drink enough water throughout your day; eight glasses a day is recommended. You will also want to avoid drinking sugary drinks like juice or soda, as they can clog your pores, which is a cause of acne.
  • Wash Your Face Daily: Since we're working towards creating healthy habits, you should still wash with a face cleanser daily, even when your skin is clear. Your skin is exposed to many elements such as the sun, dirt, and oil, and it's a good habit to use your kid's face wash at the end of the day. If you want your skin to remain clear, keep taking good care of it!

It’s an exciting time to get started with a healthy skincare routine. You are creating healthy habits that will help your skin now and in the future. If you start taking care of your skin at ten, you can be sure that your skin will look better as you grow into your teenage years.

Remember to use a face cleanser first, then use any spot treatments if needed, moisturize, and apply sunscreen in the morning. If you are looking for more ways to learn about taking care of your skin, check out our top 10 ways to start caring for your skin during your tweens.
